Medically Integrated Programs
The Aurora Health and Wellness Center offers medical programs with two unique and essential components – nutritional coaching/education and exercise. Our Programs are for those with medical conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, Parkinson’s Disease, cancer, and arthritis. Programs are also recommended to reduce fall risks and prevent future health challenges.
Participants will also be able to appreciate the benefits of anti-inflammatory foods and successfully incorporate them into a healthier lifestyle.
During the 12 -week session, participants will be able to:
- Understand how inflammation affects the body
- Identify inflammatory foods and adopt healthier substitutes
- Identify and sample selected healthy fruits, vegetables, proteins, grains, herbs, and fats
- Develop attainable goals
Classes meet twice per week for 12 weeks.
Over 600,000 people die of heart disease in the United States every year – that’s 1 in every 4 deaths. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women. Every year over 700,000 Americans have a heart attack. Of these, over 500,000 are a first heart attack and over 200,000 happen in people who have already had a heart attack.
More than 100 million U.S. adults are now living with diabetes or prediabetes. Over 30 million Americans have diabetes. Another 84 million have prediabetes, a condition that if not treated, often leads to type 2 diabetes within five years.
Approximately 60,000 Americans are diagnosed with Parkinson’s each year, and by 2020, almost 1 million will be living with Parkinson’s disease. That is more than the combined number of people diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, and Lou Gehrig’s disease (or ALS). Incidence of Parkinson’s disease increases with age, but an estimated four percent of people with PD are diagnosed before age 50.
Research has shown that being physically active helps reduce the risk of a variety of cancer types, as well as heart disease, diabetes, and other diseases. Physical activity also indirectly reduces the risk of developing obesity-related cancers because of its role in helping to maintain a healthy weight
A serious fall can mean the difference between life and death. Core and balance exercises are crucial for adults to maintain their independence and wellbeing.
Every year half of American adults embark on a weight loss program. Without proper long-term guidance, most fail. They are stuck in a loop of weight loss and weight gain. To manage and maintain healthy weight loss education and support are necessary.
Over 7.2 million American have received an artificial joint. Exercise that works to strengthen the surrounding muscles is proven to aid in the recovery of joint replacement surgery. It also provides ease of movement for those experiencing pain who are not ready to go under the knife.
Support groups bring together people who are going through, have gone through or have loved ones with similar experiences. These groups are great for resources and emotional support.
